Cardinal Pair Mural
Congratulations! You have found the Cardinal Pair mural at L.J. Smith Park (North End Park)! Read the following text and write down some facts on your form.
Many people who decide to start paying attention to birds begin because a Northern Cardinal catches their eye. You can spot bright-red, male cardinals at feeders in this area at any time of the year. Unlike most our feathered friends, Cardinals do not migrate.
Female cardinals are not nearly as colorful. Instead, females appear a more brownish color. Can you spot the reddish-colors on the female’s crest? These common songbirds are also the state bird of more states (7) than any other bird. They use their powerful, short bills to crack open sunflower seeds. What other birds might you expect to see in this area that love to eat sunflower seeds?
